Club Meetings

 

Salisbury Lions Club (SLC) meets the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of every month at 6:15 PM from September to June. This year our meetings are at the Elks Club located at 401 Church Hill Ave, Salisbury, MD 21804 (410) 749-2695. We serve dinner, enjoy interesting speakers and socialize. Social Events

 

SLC sponsors an active social events calendar for members to meet, socialize and introduce new members to our club. These events include crab and oyster feasts, Christmas Dinner, President's Night, Mystery Dinners and more. Come join us and see if our club is a good fit for you.

Charitable Programs and Service Projects

 
Melvin Jones Fellowship Award

Annually, SLC selects individuals that best exempliy the service and humanitarian ideals of Lions Clubs. Melvin Jones Fellows are selected based on the contributions they have made to the community and their ongoing investment of time and energy in Lions charitable projects.     See Melvin Jones Fellows

Lion's High School Scholarships and Awards

SLC selects one student scholar from each of the three Salisbury high schools to recieve a five hundred dollar scholarship for college based on need. The club also sponsors the David Dulany Sportsman's Award. At the conclusion of each high school football season, the Lions recognize one football player from each of the city high school for sportsmanship displaided on the playing field. The winner is chosen by opposing teams. The award is named after long-time Lion who was instrumental in forming many of the area youth leagues. The Waller and McCool Trophies are awared each year to Wicomico Counties most outstanding male and female basketball player. Recipiencens are selected by a panel of coaches and media represetitives.

Mission of Mercy

The Mission of Mercy is a two-day, full service dental clinic that provides free dental care to over 1,000 patients. Hosted in April at the Wicomico Civic Center, SLC provides volunteer support to the dental professionals delivering services. Last year, the program performed 1040 x-rays, 643 restorative procedures, 44 endo procedures and 2066 extractions. In addition, 719 pharmacy patients and 408 vision patients were  provided services. Wilmer Eye

Through the Lions Vision Research Foundation, SLC supports the Wilmer Eye Institute. As part of Johns Hopkins University, Wilmer Eye is at the forefront of vision research in developing new ways to help those with glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration, and blindness. We also support this organization by selling candy on Vision Day in the spring and again in the fall.

Blind Industries

SCL supports Blind Industries and Services of Maryland (BISM). This non-profit organization trains and employs the blind in full time jobs. Last spring, SLC bought Blind Industries an new braille reader. Read More

Leader Dog

SLC contributes funding for the Leader Dog facility in Michigan. This organization raises and trains leader dogs for blind people at no charge.

Salisbury Zoobilee

For the past several years SLC and the LEOs have provided volunteer support at Salisbury Zoo's fund raiser. We also raise money for the Lions Club and Salisbury Zoo through the sale of refreshments.

Maryland Food Bank

SLC provides donations and manpower to help sort food at the food bank.  The Maryland Food Bank collects and distributes food and home supplies to needy families in Maryland's lower shore community.

Gifts for Kids

Each December SLC helps to bring Christmas cheer to 3-4 families who are homeless and staying at the Christan Shelter in Salisbury. We take them to local stores, and give them a little shopping spree, where the kids can buy presents for their parents and siblings. Afterwards we treat them to a pizza lunch and wrap all the presents so they can be taken them back to the shelter.

Santa's Angles

Working with a local church, SLC delivers gifts and a food to Salisbury families who are without sufficient funds to celebrate Christmas. Last year, this program served over 90 families and made a significant difference in the lives of less fortunate members of our community.

Wine at the Beach

SCL provides voluteer manpower for Ocean City's annual Wine at the Beach event held in August. Proceeds from the event help fund SLC's charitable contributions and general services.

Fund Raising Activites

 

Knights For Sight Metric Century

An annual bike tour through the scenic back roads of Maryland’s Eastern Shore and Delaware with 15, 35, 65 and 100 mile rides. All entrée fees and donations support our vision activities and charitable giving. SLC markets the event, provides manpower and event promotion.

Sportsman's Raffle

In conjunction with Gander Mountain, SLC manages a raffle for weekly gift certificates that winners can use to purchase whatever they like. This is our largest fund raiser of the year and all club members participate in the sale of these tickets. Winning tickets are selected daily during the entire month of October.

Discount Cards

SLC recuits local business to participate in its annual Discount Card program. The revenue generated by selling these discount cards supports SLC sight, hearing and assistance programs.

Lions Breakfasts

We sponsor breakfasts at local resturants. SLC buys the food, provides the manpower and sells tickets to these events. The proceeds fund our charitable donations and scholoarships.
